The aim of the three-year LIFE project that began in June 2016 is to tackle the challenges and opportunities of local economies and societies to increase their resilience to climate change. The specific objective is to work with agriculture and livestock, forestry activities, tourism, and fishing in three areas: the Montseny Biosphere Reserve, the Alt Penedès district and the Terres de l’Ebre. Barcelona Provincial Council is coordinating the project, and the beneficiary partners are the Consortium on Environmental Policies of the Terres de l’Ebre (COPATE), the Area Council of Alt Penedès (CCAP), the Montseny Natural Park, the Catalan Office for Climate Change (OCCC), Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Workers’ Commission of Catalonia (CCOO), the General Workers’ Union of Catalonia (UGT) and the Farmers’ Union of Catalonia (UP).
MINUARTIA is involved in the application of the first LIFE actions in Montseny, for which the OCCC is responsible, designed to characterise the effects of climate change in Montseny, analyse the vulnerabilities, and assess impacts on the agriculture and livestock, forestry, and tourism sectors. The technical work is complemented by discussion workshops for stakeholders from these three economic sectors.
