Vilafranca del Penedès launches a strategic plan for green infrastructure

Commissioned by the Barcelona Provincial Council and developed in collaboration with the City Council, the Strategic Plan for the Urban and Peri-urban Green Infrastructure of Vilafranca del Penedès was drafted in 2025.
Its goal is to become a reference tool for municipal urban planning and for other local‑level projects. Specifically, it focuses on highlighting the biodiversity of the city’s green spaces and the surrounding agricultural landscape.

The Green Infrastructure Plan views the territory as an integrated socio‑ecological system, identifies 15 innovative and interconnected strategic elements, and defines seven strategic objectives, with a total of 100 specific actions. It also proposes four priority territorial areas for intervention.

Among other measures, the actions aim to promote a new culture of green spaces, incorporating aspects such as climate change adaptation and the reduction of hydrological risks. The Plan also promotes social inclusion in public spaces, integrating biodiversity and ecosystem services.

MINUARTIA provided the technical assistance for drafting the Plan.
