Shared Skies: motto of the World Birdstrike Association 2018

The World Birdstrike Association held a meeting of experts on wildlife risk management in Warsaw from 19–21 November 2018. The event brought together over 130 attendees from countries worldwide, as well as representatives of the European Air Safety Agency (EASA) and the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA).

At the congress, the latest innovations were presented on measures to prevent impacts of aircraft with fauna at airports and information was shared on drafting risk management programs with fauna, standardization of the risk assessment index and other matters. The assembly of the World Birdstrike Association and its regional committee WBA-Europe was also held. At this assembly, Ferran Navàs from MINUARTIA ended his term as secretary of WBA-Europe.

MINUARTIA participated in the conference with the assistance of Ferran Navàs and Albert Cama, together with technicians from Barcelona-El Prat Airport. They held a workshop on risk assessment, where they presented a study on Key Performance Indicators for risk monitoring at each airport. After the congress, they visited Modlin Airport to learn about avian radar operation and other applied wildlife risk management techniques.
