Monitoring the effects of ecological restoration on biodiversity along the Tenes River fluvial path

Bigues i Riells Town Council - 2024

Assessment of the ecological restoration effects aimed at recovering the fluvial path of the Tenes River as it passes through Bigues i Riells del Fai. Areas affected by the project have been compared with an undisturbed control area, analyzing the condition of habitats, flora and vegetation, fauna (birds, fish, and invertebrates), and the physicochemical parameters of the water. Based on the results, management measures are proposed to ensure the long-term conservation of the river system, particularly to prevent future impacts after the path is opened for public use. These measures include restoring existing habitats to favor native species, implementing actions to prevent negative impacts from public use, continuous monitoring of the river’s conservation status and its biodiversity, and outreach activities highlighting the importance of the ecosystem services provided by conserving this system.
