Monitoring programme for wild boar populations in Catalonia
Government of Catalonia (DARPA, DTES), Barcelona Provincial Council
1998 – 2020
1998 – 2020
Monitoring of wild boar populations by analysing data on individuals captured in 22 observatories located in different geographical regions. The programme’s database has around 70,000 records of hunts carried out since 1998 and is one of the most complete databases of its kind in Europe. Based on its analysis, annual reports are prepared to analyse the evolution of wild boar hunting. They are used to propose management measures in different points of the territory. About 200 teams of hunters as well as guards and technicians responsible for biodiversity management collaborate in the study in the monitored areas.
