The ‘Tarragona – GREENBELT’26: Renaturalization of Urban and periurban Spaces of the Greenbelt’ program, led by the Tarragona City Council, includes a bioindicator monitoring plan to assess the success of actions aimed at enhancing biodiversity in key areas of the municipality’s green infrastructure. The program is supported by the Fundación Biodiversidad of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR), funded by NextGenerationEU, to promote actions aimed at the renaturalization and resilience of Spanish cities.
MINUARTIA has been awarded the bioindicator monitoring project and collaborates with the municipality’s environmental team on tasks that include an overall biodiversity assessment in the municipality, as well as the monitoring of bioindicator groups such as lichens, macroinvertebrates, butterflies, fish, and bats. Sampling will take place over the next 2 years and will provide key information for biodiversity management in the municipality.
