Management Plan for Iberian Ibex in Montsant Natural Park

Parc Natural de la Serra de Montsant - 2021

Development of a management plan for the Iberian ibex in Montsant Natural Park. The plan establishes guidelines to ensure the species’ population sustainability within the Park while minimizing potential damage to agriculture and biodiversity. It compiles and integrates information from previous studies, includes consultations with local stakeholders, and conducts fieldwork to estimate population density using the Random Encounter Model (REM) technique, which is compared with results from visual censuses through transects and fixed-point observations. Analysis of these data enables population growth projections. All generated information serves as the basis for drafting the Management Plan, structured into five strategic lines. The Plan provides tools for planning, implementing, and monitoring measures to maintain a sustainable ibex population density, maximizing its potential benefits while reducing conflicts.
