Design of an ecological connectivity structure in the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, in collaboration with the engineering firm in charge of the construction project for the Olot bypass, the C-37 road connecting Vic with Olot.
The area is characterised by a landscape protected as an Area of Landscape Interest and of great interest for ecological connectivity. It is home to Habitats of Community Interest and fauna of interest, with species that are under a certain degree of threat. The high densities of wild boar and roe deer in the area represent a risk factor for road safety, as the section under study has been identified as an Ungulate Accident Concentration Section (TCAU). In this context, specific recommendations are proposed for the integration of a wildlife crossing that will optimise the restoration of ecological connectivity, reduce the risk of wildlife collisions and accidents, promote habitat continuity, reduce light, noise and air pollution associated with traffic, and improve its integration into the landscape. The work has been carried out in collaboration with TYPSA, the engineering firm responsible for the project, with the cooperation of the managers of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park and the Department of Territory of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
