Monographic issue of the World Road Association – PIARC journal on ‘Roads and Biodiversity’

The issue corresponding to the last quarter of 2023 of the World Road Association – PIARC journal ‘Routes/Roads’ is exclusively dedicated to articles related to the integration of biodiversity in road design and management. The monograph has been prepared in cooperation with the Infrastructure and Ecology Network Europe (IENE) and the Horizon 2020 project ‘Biodiversity and Infrastructure Synergies and Opportunities for European Transport Networks’.
The articles are available in Spanish, English, and French on the journal’s website and can be downloaded in Routes/Roads 398.

In the article Biodiversity and Infrastructure: An Online Handbook for Promoting Cooperation and Action, co-authored by Carme Rosell and Luis Manuel Fernández from MINUARTIA, together with Andreas Seiler from the Swedish Agricultural University, the possibility of achieving synergies that promote biodiversity conservation is highlighted, while simultaneously increasing traffic safety (by reducing the risk of wildlife-related accidents) and the resilience of roads to impacts associated with climate change. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to accelerate the deployment of concrete actions that have proven effective, while promoting the development of new innovative solutions.

The new online tool IENE Biodiversity and Infrastructure. A handbook for action includes guidelines and technical prescriptions aimed at professionals working in transport infrastructure and ecology and provides a portal for accessing information on this topic.
