The SYMBIOSIS Project, ‘SYstemic Mobilisation for Joint Biodiversity and Infrastructure,’ funded by Europe’s Rail under the European Union’s HORIZON EUROPE program, begins in September 2024 and will last for 36 months. It integrates more than twenty organizations from 12 countries and aims to accelerate the implementation of policies and tools to improve biodiversity in railway and electrical infrastructure.
The project’s strategic objectives include: i) creating an environment that integrates and accelerates actions to enhance biodiversity considerations in infrastructure policies and development; ii) developing a set of practical tools that improve biodiversity integration into infrastructure while standardizing data collection; iii) convening key stakeholders responsible for infrastructure management to generate an integrative framework among different infrastructures and their surroundings. In this context, SYMBIOSIS seeks to address key challenges such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, or the cumulative effects of infrastructure, by seeking synergistic solutions that enhance biodiversity.
Minuartia participates in SYMBIOSIS by leading two tasks focused on applying Nature-Based Solutions to improve infrastructure resilience against the effects of climate change, aiming to provide additional benefits for both biodiversity and other sectors in the surrounding infrastructure.
