The ‘HidroNet Baix Ter’ project, officially titled ‘Flood Prevention Strategy and Promotion of Aquatic Biodiversity through Laminating Surfaces in the Water Network of the Lower Ter River,’ aims to apply nature-based solutions across the entire Baix Ter region by creating and interconnecting laminating areas to slow water flow and improve the current drainage model. To achieve this, the project will restore wetlands and ancient flood zones that are currently dried up. This project is supported by the Fundaci\u00f3n Biodiversidad of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed by the European Union \u2013 NextGenerationEU. <\/p>\n\n

The project will reduce flood risks and also bring benefits to nature, creating new habitats that will host a wide variety of wildlife, especially species associated with aquatic environments, such as amphibians. Key actions include the construction of laminating ponds, restoration of watercourses from the Montgr\u00ed Massif, and improving road permeability for wildlife, thus reducing the risk of roadkill and promoting their conservation. <\/p>\n\n

MINUARTIA is collaborating on the project by developing a guide for adapting drainage works as passages for amphibians and other wildlife species. It also identifies sections with the highest risk of animal accidents and proposes measures to reduce them. The results will be presented in a session to be held on October 23 at the Mar de llibres library in l’Estartit. <\/p>\n\n
